British automobile company Triumph has entered the Indian market and launched its affordable motorcycle Speed 400. It has been developed in association with Bajaj.

The company says that its delivery will start from next week. However, the company has not launched the Scrambler 400X. The company will launch it by October. The company plans to produce and sell around 45,000 to 50,000 units of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X by FY2024.
The company has fixed the price of Speed 400 at Rs 2.23 lakh for the first 10,000 customers. The company does not say that within a few hours of launching it had received more than 2500 bookings. Rakesh Sharma, ED, Bajaj Auto said that the company has planned to produce 5000 units every month. He added that there is a possibility that the model could go to a waiting time of 2-3 months if this momentum continues. The model is getting good response from the customers.
Design of Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X
Talking about their design, both the Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X fit perfectly in the neo-retro look. These include round headlight, minimal body panels, 43mm gold USD forks, mostly blacked-out engine bay with stylish Silchar accents, contrasting fuel tank colour. The Speed 400 gets bar-end mirrors, single-tip exhaust and a single seat.
The Scrambler 400X gets regular ORVMS. It gets headlight grille, tall handlebar, knuckle guards, scrambler-style twin-tip exhaust and split seats. The componentry is slightly different for both. The Speed 400 gets 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, Metzeler Sportec M9RR tyres, 140mm front and 130mm rear suspension travel, 300mm front disc, dual-channel ABS, seat height 790mm and more
The Scrambler 400X rides on 19-front and 17-rear wheels shod with Metzeler Karu street tires with block pattern. It gets 150mm of suspension travel at both ends, 320mm front disc, switchable dual-channel ABS, seat height of 835mm and more. The Speed 400 weighs 170 kg. Whereas, the Scrambler 400X weighs 179 kg.
It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster with a large analogue speedo and a digital tacho. Both the motorcycles also get all-LED lighting, heated grips, USB Type-C charging port, switchable transition controls, gear position indicator.
Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X engines
Both these motorcycles use the new TR-series 398cc engine. It gets ride-by-wire technology for the DOHC and liquid-cooling setup as well as slip-and-assist clutch and granular throttle modulation. Talking about performance, it generates 40 bhp power at 8000 RPM and 37.5 Nm torque at 6500 RPM. Which brings it closer to the KTM 390 range of engines. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. Whereas, the 900cc twin-cylinder model continues to get a 5-speed gearbox.
