According to Autocar India, more than 16,000 units of the Exter have been booked since the bookings started in May.
Booking and waiting period
Talking about the bookings for the Exter, Garg said that it has been booking an average of around 1,800 units every day since its launch. He further added, "Around 38 per cent bookings are being done for the AMT version, 22 per cent for the CNG version and 40 per cent for the petrol manual version." This means that bookings are being done almost equally for the automatic and manual versions.
According to Autocar, the waiting period for the Exter goes up to 12 weeks depending on the variant. The waiting period for the Exter manual and its CNG variant is around six to eight weeks, while the waiting period for the automatic version is between 10 to 12 weeks. This means that the AMT version has the longest waiting period despite the higher bookings for the Exter manual.
Exter's Engine
To give power to the Hyundai Exter, it has been given a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine. This engine generates 82 bhp power and 114 Nm torque. While its CNG version generates 68 bhp power and 95 Nm torque. Apart from this, the option of bio fuel CNG has also been given with this SUV.
The new Exter is available in 6 variants, which include EX, EX(O), S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) variants. Hyundai Exter is available in a total of 9 color options for the customers to choose from - Atlas White, Cosmic Blue, Fiery Red, Ranger Khaki, Starry Night, Titan Grey, Atlas Black with Abyss Black, Cosmic Blue with Abyss Black and Ranger Khaki with Abyss Black colour.
Hyundai Exter rivals
The Exter rivals the Tata Punch, Citroen C3 and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Since May, when the pre-bookings for the subcompact SUV from Hyundai opened, over 22,000 units of the Punch have been sold.
The Exter's other two rivals - the Citroen C3 and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis - sold very few units during the same period. Around 1,500 units of Citroen were sold, while only around 8,900 units of Maruti were sold.
The Exter, which is expected to give tough competition to the segment bestseller Punch, comes equipped with several segment-first features. Apart from the CNG powertrain option, it gets a voice-enabled sunroof, dashcam, six airbags as well as ESC as standard across the range.
